What does a celebrant actually do?

GREAT QUESTION!

A celebrant’s role is to help you mark the moments that matter in life with intention, meaning, and heart. Whether it’s a wedding, a farewell, a baby naming, or another milestone, I work with you to create a ceremony that reflects your story, your values, and your connections.

I guide you through the process, weaving together words, rituals, and moments that feel personal and authentic, so that your celebration is truly one-of-a-kind — a memory you and your loved ones will carry with you always.

It is my personal mission to make your moment kind of a big deal!

Let's have an analogy now to help explain further....

Well sure! I love an analogy!

I like to think of a celebrant as the director of your ceremony, whatever kind of ceremony it might be.

This is the person who will make sure that things are legal, but will also ensure that everybody knows exactly what to do, where to stand, what to say, and when to say it, all the while bringing the right energy, and making sure that the photos are swoon-worthy (if applicable).

The celebrant will do all of this while making it look nearly effortless, all the while ensuring that the key players are comfortable.

The celebrant will make sure that the event is just what the couple or the family want, in the tone that they want it; bringing the sparkle and a laugh at the right time, without making the day all about them.

Personalised Touch

As well as being the director of the ceremony, there are some other roles that I can play for my special couples and families, to make sure that you feel properly seen, properly looked after, and properly comfortable.  This way you can be present during the ceremony in the best way possible. These are all just part of the deal!

Emotional support bunnyI absolutely love life moments and I will be there with you every single step of the way. It's my job to make sure that things go off without a hitch and that includes liaising with the venue if there's any last-minute surprises, and with any other professionals or suppliers.  For weddings, I will make sure that the special attendees like the bridal party feel cool and calm, AND that the guests know what to expect and exactly when to cheer, clap and woop.

Wordsmith: Not everyone finds it easy to express themselves using words, but writing is one of my passions, and if you need some help to get it right, I would be honoured to assist.  I can't impress on you how much of a word nerd I am. I love it!

For weddings, not everyone wants to write personal vows, but lots of people do.  I promise not to give any secrets away if you both need help- I am a vault when it comes to keeping things on the down-low.

For funerals or end-of-life celebrations, you might need some help crafting a fitting eulogy.

I am very happy to assist if you need some input to get started, or to give feedback on your own words, or help with that final polish.

For weddings, your personal meet-cute story creatorOK, I do realise that I didn't CREATE your meeting story, but I do love learning all about it and crafting a beautiful and amusing story to tell on your big day.

Amazing-wedding-supplier discoverer:  This won't be my first rodeo but it might be yours. I think that I am talented at hunting out good humans: ones who are like-minded, kind, and bloody brilliant at what they do. If you need any help with ideas for a venue, a cake maker, a photographer, a florist or any other professional for your day, please just sing out! I love connecting people- it's one of my favorite ways to make your life easier and add value.

Wedding rehearsal champ:  I really really really recommend that we do a rehearsal. Like super strongly recommend. This allows us to step through every moment and iron out any kinks or nerves or questions that you didn't even know that you had ahead of the big day. Sometimes it might be the angle of the sun that will be searing your guests retinas at wedding o'çlock if we face the way that you had originally planned, but we wouldn't have even realised that issue unless we had done the rehearsal. The rehearsal is all part of the service my little love bugs!

Unexpected incident and back-up plan sorcererYou know that saying "Murphy's Law"? Like if something could go wrong then it will.  I do not believe that this is the case, but sometimes something unexpected can happen. I am super great at thinking on my feet, having my emergency kit ready (the puppy dog bearing the rings won't settle? Never fear I have dog treats in my pockets!) and smoothing things over with a smile and a giggle.
